Mexico City’s Wet Markets

The term ‘wet market’ has become stigmatized due to obvious reasons. In less obvious reasons, I wanted to explore the relevance of these markets within Mexican culture. Through these images, hopefully one can feel the importance and the vibrance of these places, and how these markets have become defacto living-monuments within the capital city of Mexico. Additionally, I would suggest that despite the graphic nature of these markets, there is a more organic relationship with food and its consumers, since there is less of an industrial and automated process. What may look visually shocking, may be much healthier than the beautifully-packed products that most Americans consume through the grocery store. This specific photographic series is in chronological order; the day begins in the market and so does it end. From morning to nightfall, this is one day in a wet market
